Gravel - Bear Island, Big Cypress ride
About this event
Saturday Caloosa Gravel Riders Bear Island Gravel Getaway
Saturday (2/22/25), join us for the fun and adventure of riding at Bear Island!
Bear Island is in the Big Cypress National Preserve.
Can you say Pink Toilet? That got your attention, didn’t it. We’ll get back to that later. Bear Island, located in the Big Cypress National Preserve, is one of the most pristine natural areas in all of south Florida and we’re going to ride through it this coming Saturday. We’ll ride through and among hardwood hammocks, low lying Cypress Domes and grassy Savannahs, making this one of the most popular of our out of town rides. We’ll meet just inside the gate on hwy 29 for an adventure up to 42 miles, depending on conditions but shorter routes will be available. Most likely we’ll head over to Everglades City and meet for lunch afterwards. As for the pink toilet? If you’ve never seen it, you’ll just have to join us for the life changing experience.
⏲ We'll meet in the parking lot at 7:30 and roll out at 8:00 am.

These are usual routes, but we'll modify as needed based on conditions. Some riders may also ride additional miles south to the infamous "Pink Toilet" for approx 42 miles.

Bring your fatter tire bike, gear, bug spray, and plenty of water & snacks.
This is a nature preserve with limited resources. Plan to bring with you all the water and nutrition you'll need. This is a self-supported ride.
There are no restrooms at the ride start, but there are vault toilets & portapotties near campgrounds on our route.
We'll ride at a comfortable gravel pace and stay together as a group.
Warning: we may see wildlife and we may get dirty!
